Patti & Allan | Oak Island Resort Wedding
Patti & Allan | Oak Island Resort Wedding
Some wedding days feel elegant from start to finish. Others feel emotional, joyful, and deeply personal. Patti & Allan’s wedding day at the beautiful Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre somehow managed to be all of those things at once.
Set along the ocean with the perfect mix of coastal views, soft spring light, and meaningful moments shared with their closest people, their day was the perfect reflection of who they are together — relaxed, genuine, and completely in love.
From the very beginning of the day, there was this calm energy surrounding everything. Patti spent the morning getting ready surrounded by family, sharing quiet moments with her mom and emotional laughs with the people closest to her. One of the sweetest parts of the day was seeing the love surrounding not just Patti & Allan, but their entire family. The moments with the girls were especially heartwarming and added such a personal touch to the day.
The details tied everything together beautifully. The vibrant florals brought such an incredible pop of color against the soft coastal backdrop — rich pinks, deep purples, soft blues, and greenery that perfectly complemented the bridesmaids’ dresses and the ocean scenery surrounding Oak Island. Every bouquet felt bold, romantic, and full of life.
And then came the ceremony. Set overlooking the water, guests gathered as the wind rolled in off the ocean and the clouds drifted overhead. There’s something so special about East Coast weddings by the water — a little unpredictable, beautifully natural, and impossible to recreate anywhere else. Patti & Allan’s ceremony was filled with laughter, emotion, and one of the happiest just-married walks back down the aisle. The joy on their faces said absolutely everything.
Throughout the day, Patti & Allan were effortless together. The quiet moments between portraits, the way Allan looked at Patti when she wasn’t watching, the constant laughter they shared — nothing felt forced. Just real connection, genuine emotion, and a wedding day focused on what truly mattered most: celebrating their love surrounded by the people who mean the world to them.
As the evening light softened over the trees and shoreline, we stole away for a few final portraits together. Those golden-hour moments felt peaceful and intimate — the perfect ending to such a beautiful day.
Patti & Allan, thank you for allowing me to be part of such an incredible celebration. Your wedding was full of warmth, color, laughter, and so much love, and it was truly an honor to capture every part of it for you. Wishing you both a lifetime filled with happiness, adventure, and countless more moments just like these. ✨
Why Wedding Photography Costs More Than Just “Hours”
Why Wedding Photography Costs More Than Just “Hours”
When couples first start looking into wedding photography, one of the biggest questions is often:
“Why does wedding photography cost so much for only a few hours?”
And honestly? It’s a fair question.
What many people don’t realize is that the hours spent photographing your wedding day are only a small part of the full experience and work that goes into documenting your story.
At Mindy Day Photography, every wedding collection is designed around far more than simply showing up with a camera. From timeline planning and communication to culling thousands of images, hand-editing your gallery, and delivering a polished final collection — wedding photography is truly weeks of work wrapped into one unforgettable day.
The Wedding Day Is Only The Beginning
On the wedding day itself, coverage may range anywhere from 2 to 8 hours, but behind the scenes there are countless additional hours invested before and after your wedding.
This includes:
Wedding timeline consultations
Planning assistance and communication
Location scouting
Equipment preparation and backups
Travel time
Photographing the wedding day itself
Culling thousands of images
Hand-editing every final image
Exporting and delivering galleries
Gallery organization and file backups
For most weddings, the editing process alone can take anywhere from 20–40+ hours depending on the amount of coverage, locations, lighting situations, and final gallery size. Every image delivered is carefully selected and professionally edited in the timeless, true-to-life style Mindy Day Photography is known for.
Breaking Down The Wedding Collections
Two Hours Coverage — $1750 + tax
Perfect for intimate weddings, elopements, or couples wanting coverage focused on the ceremony and portraits. While the wedding day itself may only be two hours, the behind-the-scenes workload still includes planning, preparation, editing, gallery delivery, and professional equipment costs.
Four Hours Coverage — $2500 + tax
Ideal for smaller wedding days that still want meaningful storytelling. Four-hour coverage often includes portions of getting ready, the ceremony, family portraits, and couples portraits — along with many additional hours spent editing and refining your final gallery afterward.
Six Hours Coverage — $3250 + tax
Six hours is a wonderful option for more simplified or non-traditional wedding days. This collection still involves extensive editing time, timeline coordination, and careful storytelling to ensure your most important moments are beautifully preserved.
Eight Hours Coverage — $4000 + tax
This is often the sweet spot for a traditional wedding day. Eight hours allows for a relaxed timeline and fuller storytelling — from getting ready through major reception moments. It also means significantly more photographs captured, sorted, edited, and delivered afterward. A full wedding gallery can easily contain thousands of images that must each be reviewed individually before final delivery — often totaling well over 40+ hours of work after the wedding day itself.
You’re Investing In More Than Photos
Wedding photography is one of the only investments from your wedding day that becomes more valuable over time. Long after the flowers fade, the music ends, and the decorations are packed away, your photographs are what remain. They become family heirlooms — preserving emotions, people, and moments that can never truly be recreated. When you invest in an experienced wedding photographer, you’re not simply paying for hours.
You’re investing in:
Years of experience
Professional equipment and backups
Artistic vision
The ability to handle unpredictable wedding days
Consistent editing and storytelling
Guidance throughout the planning process
And ultimately, memories you’ll carry for the rest of your life
At the heart of it all, wedding photography is about trust — trusting someone to preserve one of the most meaningful days you’ll ever experience.
And that responsibility is something Mindy Day Photography never takes lightly.
Experience matters far beyond simply owning a camera.
A photographer with years of wedding experience understands timelines, family dynamics, lighting conditions, backup systems, posing guidance, crowd management, and how to keep a wedding day flowing smoothly. They know how to create beautiful images in almost any environment — whether it’s harsh midday sun, a dark reception hall, rain, wind, or a timeline running behind schedule.
When you invest in a skilled wedding photographer, you’re not just paying for photos. You’re investing in:
Reliability
Professionalism
Consistency
Creative vision
Problem-solving ability
Emotional awareness
Technical expertise
Peace of mind
Quality work also speaks for itself. A strong portfolio should feel consistent from gallery to gallery — not just a handful of lucky images. Anyone can capture one beautiful photo. A true professional can deliver an entire wedding gallery filled with meaningful moments, beautiful lighting, storytelling, emotion, and consistency from beginning to end.
Your wedding photographer is also one of the vendors who spends the most time beside you throughout your day. They are there during intimate, emotional, and sometimes stressful moments. Having someone experienced, calming, organized, and confident beside you makes a huge difference in your overall experience.
Lower pricing does not automatically mean lower quality, and higher pricing does not always guarantee perfection. However, pricing often reflects years of experience, professional equipment, education, insurance, editing time, business expenses, backup gear, and the level of service being provided behind the scenes.
Wedding photography is one of the few investments from your wedding day that increases in value over time. Years from now, your photographs will become more meaningful than you can possibly imagine. They will tell your story to future generations. They will hold memories of loved ones, emotions you forgot, and moments you didn’t even realize were happening.
When choosing your wedding photographer, look beyond the price tag.
Pay attention to how their work makes you feel.
Pay attention to consistency.
Pay attention to experience.
Pay attention to connection.
Because at the end of the day, your wedding photos are not just another wedding expense — they are your memories preserved forever.
The One Wedding Investment You’ll Never Regret
When planning a wedding, it’s easy to get caught up in the endless list of expenses. The venue. The dress. The flowers. The décor. The late-night snacks. The custom napkins no one remembers six months later.
Weddings are expensive — there’s no denying that. But out of every investment you’ll make throughout your wedding day, there’s one that continues to grow more valuable with time: Your wedding photography. Long after the cake is eaten, the flowers have wilted, and the dance floor lights have shut off, your photographs are what remain. They become the tangible memories of one of the most emotional, meaningful, and fleeting days of your life. Your wedding photos are not just for today. They’re for your future. They’re for the moments years from now when you want to relive the way your partner looked at you walking down the aisle. The way your parents hugged you a little tighter that day. The tears during speeches. The uncontrollable laughter with your bridal party. The quiet in-between moments you didn’t even realize were happening. Photography freezes time in a way nothing else can. A wedding day moves incredibly fast. Most couples say the same thing afterward: “It felt like a blur.”
That’s why photography matters so deeply. It allows you to revisit the moments you missed, the emotions you forgot, and the memories that deserve to be held onto forever. Choosing your photographer isn’t simply about hiring someone to take pictures. You’re trusting someone to preserve your story — honestly, beautifully, and emotionally. And while pricing naturally plays a role in every wedding decision, photography is one area where experience, consistency, and quality truly matter.
An experienced wedding photographer knows how to handle unpredictable timelines, changing weather, difficult lighting, emotional family dynamics, fast-moving moments, and everything in between — often all at once. They know when to step in and guide, and when to quietly step back and document moments naturally as they unfold.
You’re not just investing in photos. You’re investing in peace of mind. You’re investing in someone who can help keep your day calm when timelines shift unexpectedly. Someone who notices the tiny details. Someone who captures the moments you didn’t even realize were happening. And perhaps most importantly — someone who understands that these photographs will only become more meaningful with time. Years from now, your wedding gallery will become one of the few things from your day that increases in emotional value rather than fades away. Your children may one day look through those photos. Your family will revisit them during anniversaries. The people in those photographs won’t always be here forever. That’s what makes wedding photography so important. It’s not just another wedding expense. It’s your first family heirloom. At the end of the day, trends will change. Décor styles will evolve. Colors and Pinterest boards will come and go. But genuine emotion? Real connection? The people you love most gathered together in one place? That will never go out of style.
And that’s exactly why wedding photography is the one wedding investment you’ll never regret.
Earthy or Light & Airy? Why I Offer Both Photography Styles
Earthy or Light & Airy? Why I Offer Both Photography Styles
One thing I get asked often is: “What editing style do you use?” Honestly? The answer is a little bit of both. While I definitely specialize in rich, earthy tones — warm skin, natural greens, moody skies, cozy depth, and storytelling imagery — I also absolutely love creating soft, light & airy galleries too. Because the truth is… every session feels different. I never want to force every session into the exact same box creatively.
That’s one of the reasons I’ve never believed photography should feel overly rigid.
My Signature Style: Earthy & Emotional. If you’ve followed my work for any length of time, you’ve probably noticed my heart naturally leans toward earthy edits.
I love:
Warm neutrals
Deep greens
Creamy skin tones
Authentic emotion
Natural storytelling
There’s just something timeless and grounding about earthy imagery that feels so real to me. It allows emotion to stand front and center without overly bright tones distracting from the connection between people.
It’s the style I’m most known for and where my creativity feels most at home. That said — I also genuinely enjoy editing in a softer, brighter direction when the session calls for it.
Light & airy photography can feel:
Dreamy
Elegant
Soft
Fresh
Delicate
Bright and joyful
Certain locations, outfits, seasons, or lighting situations naturally lend themselves beautifully to that aesthetic. And when it fits the story, I absolutely embrace it. I think photography should reflect you first — not just a preset.
My Goal Is Always Connection First. At the end of the day, editing style matters… but emotion matters more. Whether your gallery leans earthy and moody or soft and airy, my biggest goal is always the same: To create images that feel honest.
I want you to look back at your photos years from now and remember exactly how that moment felt — not just what it looked like.
That’s the magic I’m chasing every single session.
And sometimes that story is earthy. Sometimes it’s airy. Sometimes it’s beautifully somewhere in between.
Wind, Sand & Waiting for June | Alyssa + Geordie’s Melmerby Beach Maternity Session
There is something wildly beautiful about photographing a maternity session by the ocean in the middle of a Maritime spring. The weather rarely cooperates perfectly, the wind has a mind of its own, and the sand somehow ends up absolutely everywhere. But honestly? Sometimes those are the sessions that feel the most real.
Alyssa and Geordie met me at Melmerby Beach for an evening maternity session while they wait for the arrival of their baby girl due this June. From the moment we started, the wind was intense. Hair was flying, sweaters were whipping around, and sand was blowing across the beach nonstop. It was one of those sessions where everyone just had to lean into the chaos a little.
And somehow, it made everything even more beautiful.
The soft neutral tones against the beach, the movement in Alyssa’s hair and clothing, and the way Geordie stayed wrapped around her through the cold wind created such a natural, connected feeling throughout the entire session. Nothing felt overly posed. It felt like them — patiently waiting together for this next chapter.
One of my favourite things about beach maternity sessions is how peaceful they can feel despite the weather. The sound of the waves, the open shoreline, the seagulls overhead, and the endless stretch of sand always create space to slow down for a minute. Even with the wind trying its absolute best to take us out, Alyssa stayed calm and graceful through every moment.
Their little girl is already so loved.
You could see it in the way Geordie looked at Alyssa, the way they held onto her belly between photos, and even in the quiet in-between moments while they walked through the sand together. Those are always the moments I find myself drawn to most as a photographer — the ones that aren’t forced.
We finished the session covered in sand and completely windblown, but it was worth every second.
Alyssa and Geordie, thank you for trusting me to document this season for you both. June is going to change your world in the best possible way, and I already know your little girl is stepping into so much love. 🤍
